ORLANDO, FL, May 15, 2012—ClearSky Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of mobile data services to regional wireless carriers, today announced the signing of a multi-year agreement with Iowa Wireless Services, LLC (dba i wireless) for Total Traffic Manager (TTM). Additionally, the long-standing ClearSky client signed a long-term renewal of their existing agreement for other services including Mobile Internet Gateway, MMS, mobile analytics and more.

i wireless, along with many other rural carriers, has been challenged with the need to increase data capacity to satisfy a small number of bandwidth-hungry users, which is not cost effective. ClearSky’s TTM will allow i wireless to manage their existing network resources more efficiently while increasing revenue from newly conceived data plans based on subscriber usage trends.

TTM provides sophisticated real-time traffic and policy enforcement, allowing i wireless to:

Facilitate new charging/billing mechanisms for value-added services.

Satisfy subscribers by fair allocation of resources.

Provide more tailored choices and entry-level data plans to subscribers, thus maximizing data ARPU.

Define and enforce network policies.

Ensure traffic flow continues unaffected, even if capacity limits are exceeded.

Detect tethering and allow subscribers to opt-in to a data plan that enables tablet and laptop tethering.

“The popularity of video streaming and peer-to-peer file sharing sites can quickly tax a carrier’s resources, and cause a major inconvenience to the remaining subscribers who are left with congested airwaves. ClearSky’s TTM allows us to assign policies on data traffic in a way that promotes fair allocation of resources while retaining the extreme heavy users, thus providing excellent service for all our subscribers and avoiding the high cost of additional capacity,” said Maggie Squires, i wireless Director of Marketing.

“Smartphone apps, unlimited data plans, and bill shock notification requirements make traffic management an essential tool to balance airwaves while accommodating active users and minimizing costs,” said ClearSky Chief Sales & Marketing Officer Tony Tagliareni. “We are proud to expand our long-term and highly-valued relationship with i wireless to include a cost-effective solution to manage their rapid growth in data traffic and create new services to increase data ARPU.”

Seek DOJ/FCC Scrutiny of Verizon/Cable Pact

The Rural Telecommunications Group, together with numerous wireless and wireline service providers and consumer advocacy groups, have announced the formation of the Alliance for Broadband Competition (“Alliance”). The formation of the Alliance is a direct response to the multi-faceted (and up until now relatively unknown) ventures entered into between Verizon Wireless, and some of the nation’s largest cable companies including Comcast, Time Warner, Cox and Bright House Networks. Verizon and the participating cable companies have entered into a myriad of transactions that, if consummated, will forever change the competitive landscape of the broadband services marketplace and radically reduce consumer choice in the process.

Not only are the cable companies selling prized mobile wireless spectrum to Verizon – spectrum that will give Verizon control of at least 1/3 of all comparable spectrum in this country – but they are also entering into reseller, agency and joint-venture relationships that will impact how all Americans access broadband. To this point, the Alliance has prepared summaries of how the Verizon-cable transactions will hinder competition and debilitate consumers with respect to wireless access, wireline access, and WiFi, as well as the threats posed by excessive spectrum concentration, the creation of patents pertaining to broadband access, and the manner in which Internet and Video content can be viewed, if at all, by American consumers.

RTG and the Alliance have recognized the threat posed by Verizon and the Cable Companies and together they have educated the Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission on the dangers inherent in a pact of this size. But the real impact will be felt by the everyday consumer, including those living and traveling to rural America – so RTG implores all Americans who value choice to contact their elected representatives in Congress and call on them for immediate hearings on these transactions.

“Verizon and the cable companies are truly creating an Axis of Broadband Power that threatens competition and consumer choice to their very core,” said Carri Bennet, RTG’s General Counsel. “Very quietly, this Axis has entered into complex transactions that will forever change how consumers access voice, Internet and video service, which companies these consumers will purchase those services from, and at the end of the day, what those services will cost. Tens of millions of Americans, including those in rural America, are now in the cross-hairs and the Alliance is ringing the warning bell calling for a stop to the onslaught before it is too late.”

About RTG – Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Rural Telecommunications Group, Inc. (RTG) is a trade association representing rural wireless carriers who each serve less than 100,000 subscribers. RTG’s members have joined together to speed delivery of new, efficient and innovative telecommunications technologies to remote and underserved communities. ruraltelecomgroup.org @RTGwireless

FORT MYERS, FL—May 8, 2012—Interop Technologies, a provider of core wireless solutions for advanced messaging, mobile device provisioning and management, and connectivity gateways, today announced that its Rich Communication Suite (RCS) Messaging Server is backward compatible with Short Message Service (SMS) and Multimedia Message Service (MMS). Mobile devices enabled with the Interop RCS server can successfully conduct messaging sessions with other devices regardless of whether they operate using RCS or SMS/MMS technology, helping to bridge the gap between legacy and next-generation messaging services.

The patent-pending solution is the first in the industry to offer backward compatibility with SMS and MMS, a feature associated with the RCS 5 standard. Interop’s RCS Messaging Server provides fully compliant RCS—not “RCS-like”—messaging features, including individual and group chat; file transfer; and indicators identifying when messages are composed, sent, and delivered. Because Interop’s server enables operators to offer RCS without a costly and complex IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) core, operators can compete with popular “over-the-top” (OTT) services without expensive changes to their current network. In addition, Interop’s hosted deployment option minimizes up-front costs and helps operators get RCS services to market quickly.

Major handset manufacturers have committed to building RCS directly into handsets starting in the second quarter of 2012. Downloadable RCS clients are also available for existing handsets.

“Our patent-pending, hosted solution, which works with any RCS client, provides the fastest, most cost-effective means of offering RCS, while completely supporting existing SMS and MMS technology,” said Steve Zitnik, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Interop Technologies. “As a result, operators can combat the threat of over-the-top players immediately, while providing subscribers with new, in-demand features.”

Interop Technologies is demonstrating the messaging interworking capabilities of its RCS Messaging Server in Booth #4322 at the International CTIA WIRELESS® 2012 event May 8-10 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

FORT MYERS, FL— May 8, 2012—Interop Technologies, a provider of core wireless solutions for advanced messaging, mobile device provisioning and management, and connectivity gateways, today announced that Cellcom has selected Interop’s hosted Commercial Mobile Service Provider (CMSP) Gateway to comply with the government’s new Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) initiative. Interop’s solution enables the operator to transmit government-issued public safety and weather alert messages to its subscribers while avoiding the expense and complexity of an on-network system.

Cellcom is known for its superior network technology and the exceptional customer service it provides to wireless subscribers throughout Wisconsin and Michigan. By deploying Interop’s hosted solution, which has received a CMSP Gateway Host certification from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), the operator ensures compliance with the CMAS initiative. Presidential, Imminent Threat, and AMBER alerts are delivered over the operator’s cellular broadcast network directly to subscribers with CMAS-compatible handsets. In the event of blizzards, floods, missing children, and other public safety emergencies, CMAS helps government agencies communicate with wireless users and save lives and property. There is no cost to subscribers, who may opt out of the Imminent Threat and AMBER alerts if they choose.

“We view CMAS as an important customer care initiative,” said Jim Lienau, Chief Technical Officer, Cellcom. “By selecting Interop’s hosted solution, we have implemented this notification service in the most cost-effective manner while ensuring our customers receive these potentially life-saving alerts.”

“Interop’s FEMA-certified CMSP Gateway enabled Cellcom to quickly deploy a proven CMAS solution,” said Damian Sazama, Vice President of Corporate and Product Marketing, Interop Technologies. “We are pleased to support Cellcom as it provides these important alerts to its subscribers.”

Background: The FCC announced on May 2nd the competitive bidding procedures for Phase I of the Mobility Fund, the first-ever reverse auction for Universal Service support, to accelerate delivery of advanced mobile services that currently lack 3G or 4G service. Winning bidders must deploy either 3G service within two years or 4G service within three years of the award. The Mobility Fund will award up to $300M that was reserved out of savings from the Commission’s Universal Service Fund (USF) reforms. As part of last year’s reform, the FCC for the first time made universal mobile service an express universal service goal, and created the Mobility Fund to help close the nation’s gaps in mobile wireless service.

Dallas, TX (April 27, 2012) – NetAmerica Alliance, LLC today announced it has launched an innovative program to help carriers which purchased 700MHz spectrum in Auction 73 to meet build-out requirements, while securing a path forward to revenue generating IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) value-added services. The terms associated with these licenses mandate that carriers which acquired spectrum in the lower 700MHz band provide wireless service coverage in 35% of the license’s geographic area by June 2013. With the clock ticking, many license owners are considering their options.

NetAmerica Alliance, which recently went live with its national service brand (BonfireTM) and its IMS-Powered SuperCenterTM, has launched a program which allows 700MHz license holders to join the Alliance as an Affiliate Member, providing them a fast track to building a network capable of meeting FCC mandates, while keeping their options open for a future evolution to IMS. The program provides them access to a suite of services offered by the Alliance including (but not limited to) the ability to purchase network equipment at the Alliance’s preferred pricing, access to Network Monitoring Services, use of Alliance developed “best practices” for network deployment, and help with project management. The program combines a focus on speed, capex and opex savings, with a migration path to the future.

Affiliate Members can choose to become full Alliance Members at any time, and upon so doing, can take advantage of revenue generating services provided to Alliance Members out of the multi-million dollar IMS-Powered SuperCenterTM. This allows Affiliate Members to meet today’s demand for build-out with full confidence that they are not compromising the future of their networks, the future of their customers, or eliminating themselves from a migration to high value, revenue generating applications. While some “hosting companies” provide limited offerings to simply meet short-term deadlines, the NetAmerica Program and NetAmerica Alliance Model are a perfect balance of the strategic and tactical.

“We recognize that the immediate need is to provide coverage in the spirit of meeting FCC requirements associated with these licenses,” said Scott Donlea, NetAmerica Alliance EVP and Chief Operating Officer. “However, we did not want the citizens of rural America or the carriers which serve them to sacrifice the future for expediency in the short term, or to forgo the opportunity of value added services because they could not justify an investment in an IMS powered network. Our program is both flexible and risk free.”

Carriers that are interested in learning more about the details of the program and its benefits are encouraged to contact Rick Overman, Chief Development Officer at 806.438.7601or via our website at www.NetAmericaAlliance.com.

About NetAmerica Alliance, LLC

NetAmerica Alliance, LLC is an alliance of independent carriers, led by an experienced management team, who have joined forces to build-out 4G LTE service in the carriers’ license coverage areas. Through the Alliance, members gain collective strength and cost advantages comparable to that of large carriers. In effect, many separate operating entities essentially become one, while maintaining their independence.

NetAmerica provides advanced multi-media IP services, buying power, nationwide branding, marketing and training programs, a network operations center, key networking elements, applications development and nationwide roaming arrangements. Members run the network in their own territories, while NetAmerica empowers advanced revenue generating services and provides the critical mass and economies of scale needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive environment.

Any Deal Likely to Perpetuate AT&T-Verizon Duopoly, Harm Rural Consumers

Verizon Wireless’ announcement earlier today that it would voluntarily sell select 700 MHz Lower A and B Block licenses is nothing more than a calculated attempt by the country’s largest mobile operator to dampen public opposition to the proposed deals it has with Comcast, Time Warner, Cox and Bright House Networks, the country’s largest cable companies, and its mere offering hints at the true mindset of Verizon Wireless.

The following statements can be attributed to Carri Bennet, RTG’s General Counsel:

Verizon Wireless’ offer to sell any spectrum is wholly contingent upon not just the FCC’s full approval of the spectrum sales from SpectrumCo and Cox to Verizon Wireless but also the government’s decision to allow the related joint venture, resale and wholesale deals between all of those companies. This offering is a lure and what Verizon Wireless really wants is the government’s blessing of its cable-wireless cartel.

Additionally, the mere fact that Verizon Wireless is offering spectrum for sale suggests that its capacity and congestion concerns are unfounded. By its own admission, Verizon Wireless is offering to sell 700 MHz spectrum in a more spectrally efficient band in the hopes it might acquire AWS spectrum in a band it has yet to even develop. Clearly, Verizon Wireless never was and currently is not starved for spectrum.

Furthermore, just as was the case when Verizon Wireless purchased ALLTEL Communications five years ago, Verizon Wireless is voluntarily offering carefully pre-selected “scraps” of spectrum to its competitors, but it already knows that the likely buyer of those scraps will be AT&T – - a move further designed to perpetuate the Twin Bell duopoly.

In short, this spectrum sale announcement is a well-crafted and well-thought-out distraction by Verizon Wireless designed for it to acquire what it wants most: the approval of federal regulators so that it may form an Axis of Broadband Power with the cable companies and in the process limit consumer choice which will result in higher prices. Verizon Wireless is willing to “lose” this minor battle so that it may ultimately win the wireless war, and that is not good for our citizens, especially those who live, work and travel through rural America.
